College Admission and Scholarships

Give Me Scholarships!

The blog of a scholarship judge who offers free advice related to success in college. Peruse older articles, or send him a letter yourself.

The Princeton Review

This is fairly close to being an encyclopedia of all things related to college admissions. Find information about a specific college (does UT require an ACT, SAT, both, or neither?) or look up a general program of study (nursing, education, etc). You may also register and prepare for the ACT from this website.

Fast Web

This website is a fantastic free resource for finding college scholarships. There is money out there - for everyone! Setting up an account requires a few minutes, and you have to be a little careful to dodge advertisements, but within about 10 minutes the website had matched me personally to about $44,000 worth of scholarships to apply for.

The FAFSA

The Free Application for Federal Student Aid is simply a must. If you are wanting to go to college, you will have to fill this out, and you will very likely be eligible for loans (or grants!)

How To Study

From the University at Buffalo, New York, this website gives an extensive and useful list of study tips.

PhET Simulations

From the University of Colorado at Boulder, this website contains numerous science simulations that both entertain and teach. You may recognize many of these from class!

The Periodic Table of Videos

Designed and maintained by the staff at the University of Nottingham, in England, this site contains videos related to all 118 known elements.  Martyn Poliakoff, one of the professors in the videos, is simply awesome - you'll know him when you see him. Sadly, this website is blocked by our school filters.

Skeptoid

A weekly podcast by Brian Dunning which is, in his own words, "dedicated to furthering knowledge by blasting away the widespread pseudosciences that infect popular culture, and replacing them with way cooler reality."
